Do you remember the last boring movie you sat through? Eyes glazed, mind wandering, the ending credits couldn’t come quickly enough. Rest assured, this won’t happen when you attend the ballet, because live performance has a beauty that cannot be replicated by anything else.
Ballet Arizona is proud to kick off our 2018-2019 season with New Moves, a daring and unexpected dance performance that will inspire and move you!
New Moves will feature the return of Ib Andersen’s fan-favorite Rio, 2018 Tony Award-Winning choreographer Justin Peck’s work In Creases, and a brand new work, Inherent, by company dancer and choreographer Nayon Iovino.
Be sure you don’t miss this once in a lifetime program September 27 – 30 and experience these stimulating works.
Choreographed by Artistic Director Ib Andersen, Rio is a samba-inspired ballet that celebrates and explores the movement and vivacity found in Brazilian culture. Audiences will be swept away by Andersen’s playful choreography and Philip Glass’ entrancing score.
Making its Arizona debut, world-renowned choreographer Justin Peck describes In Creases as “compact but intense at the same time…with a sleek design to it.” Audiences will be drawn in by the highly energetic music of Philip Glass combined with the lightning fast movement of the dancers that perfectly displays their athleticism and artistry.
Inherent– A World Premiere
Discover the new work by Nayon Iovino, named “best up-and-coming choreographer” by AZ Central, who was also recently accepted into the New York Choreographic Institute’s Spring 2019 program. The Institute promotes the development of choreographers and dancers involved in classical choreography by providing opportunities to develop their talents. This prestigious honor is highly competitive and the choreographers are selected from a large number of applicants received each year and reviewed by a panel of experts.
