Whether you are moving to Arizona to be closer to family, start a new job, go to school, or just have a change of scenery, we are excited to welcome you to the community.
As you start this new adventure, we want to help you by giving you some insider information about moving to Arizona. Use the information that we provide and you will quickly feel like a local in your new hometown.
The Arts Scene is Thriving
Many newcomers to the area are surprised to discover how much there is to see and do when it comes to the arts. The entire art scene throughout the state of Arizona is thriving.
Every weekend there is something to see or do. If you want a quiet weekend to relax, you can stroll through the art exhibits at the Phoenix Art Museum in Phoenix or head to Scottsdale and visit the Museum of Contemporary Art. If you love music, you could attend a performance by the Phoenix Symphony, see a musical at The Dodge Theatre, or attend a live performance at one of the smaller, more intimate music venues like the Crescent Ballroom.
We here at Ballet Arizona also contribute a lot to the art scene. Every year we carefully plan out which shows we will perform so locals get the chance to not only see some of their favorite ballets, such as The Nutcracker, but they also get to see newer shows such as Napoli or All Balanchine 2020.
In addition to our scheduled yearly productions, you can also see live performances by students at our dance school. Locals love coming to these productions as they get to see up-and-coming professional dancers perform for a live audience.
There’s So Much to Do
One of the benefits of moving to Arizona is that there is something for everyone to do. Adventurous folks enjoy hiking or biking through the beautiful mountains while those who like to take things slower find the Japanese Friendship Garden of Phoenix to be relaxing and fun.
Other fun things to do include:
Heard Museum – an entire museum dedicated to highlighting Native American culture
Arizona Capitol Museum – a historical tour of the governor’s office and statehouse chambers
Papago Park – scenic views
Monthly art walks held at Roosevelt Row
Dining at one of the amazing restaurants located at Heritage Square
Attend one of the popular festivals held throughout the state of Arizona – favorite festivals include the First Friday Art Walk Festival in Phoenix, Taco Festival in Scottsdale, Arizona State Fair in Phoenix, and the Arizona International Film Festival in Tucson
If you prefer to stay closer to home, you could purchase tickets to attend one of our performances or even try out a dance class at our dance school. We offer dance classes for all ages and skill levels.
Arizona’s weather varies dramatically not only by what the season is but by where you are located. Summers generally are warm and sunny. However, the fall and winter months always bring unexpected weather. It is not uncommon to enjoy a beautiful winter day with comfortable temperatures in the 50s only to experience near-freezing temperatures when the sun sets.
We love to take advantage of the beautiful weather Arizona has to offer. In the summer, our ballet company will perform free shows throughout the community. And this year – thanks to Arizona’s amazing weather – we have decided to continue offering an entire production outdoors at the Desert Botanical Garden.
The performance, known as An Evening at Desert Botanical Garden, uses Arizona’s beautiful sunsets and landscaping as background scenery as our talented dancers showcase their amazing talents and techniques. It really will be a sight to be seen. Make sure to purchase tickets to this event so you don’t miss out.
It’s One of the Fastest Growing States
Adventure awaits you when you move to Arizona which is one of the fastest-growing states in the United States. However, we are certain that in your first week or two in the state you will want to take things slowly and get to know the area. Take things slowly while getting a feel for what Arizona – and in particular the Phoenix area – has to offer by planning an evening out on the town. Purchasing tickets to one of our upcoming ballet shows and dining at one of the local downtown Phoenix restaurants is a great way to start your new life in Arizona. Start planning what you will do those first few weeks in Arizona by looking at our schedule for the 2019-2020 season and purchasing tickets to one of our upcoming shows.
Once again, welcome to Arizona and we look forward to seeing you in our audience!
