Thank you for being such an instrumental part of Ballet Arizona’s 2016-2017 season. Together we’ve traveled the world - from India to Verona to Rio. We are thrilled to conclude our season at Desert Botanical Garden this May with "Topia" and hope to see you at "All Balanchine" this week. http://blog.balletaz.org/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/MV130504_baz_2113.jpg 550 1100 Dana Manners /wp-content/uploads/2016/08/logo-balletaz-white.png Dana Manners2017-05-10 15:26:032017-06-01 16:14:46Behind the Scenes with Ib Andersen: "All Balanchine" & "Topia"
In the evening I volunteered to do the costumes for a street theater group, and there I learned how to make something out of nothing and how to observe the way fabrics move, and how the director and the actors work. http://blog.balletaz.org/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/IMG_3912.jpg 549 1100 Dana Manners /wp-content/uploads/2016/08/logo-balletaz-white.png Dana Manners2017-05-04 15:17:142017-05-18 13:12:22Behind The Scenes: Costume Director Leonor Texidor
Take a peek behind the curtain as Ballet Arizona dancers share the physical, emotional and mental strength Balanchine performances demand and what it’s like to learn from one of George Balanchine’s protégés, Ib Andersen. http://blog.balletaz.org/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/Rubies_Chicago_Event.jpg 550 1100 Dana Manners /wp-content/uploads/2016/08/logo-balletaz-white.png Dana Manners2017-04-27 16:11:482017-05-10 15:26:44Center Stage: "All Balanchine"
I had a neighbor in Cuba who lived in AZ for a while. His only description of Arizona was “hot”. I had no idea just how beautiful Arizona would be with or without its summer heat. I was unprepared for everything it holds. http://blog.balletaz.org/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/annier-3.jpg 548 1100 Dana Manners /wp-content/uploads/2016/08/logo-balletaz-white.png Dana Manners2017-04-20 22:01:392017-08-24 12:17:33Dancer's Story - Annier Navarro
I continue to do a Balanchine program each year because, in my opinion, he is the number one choreographer that we have ever seen in ballet. There is no one like him; no one is as diverse as him and I don’t think there ever will be. http://blog.balletaz.org/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/140501_baz_2174.jpg 670 1100 Dana Manners /wp-content/uploads/2016/08/logo-balletaz-white.png Dana Manners2017-04-13 18:19:532017-05-04 15:38:18Behind the Scenes with Ib Andersen: "All Balanchine"
For years, audiences have been watching me on stage, as I bring to life characters from beautiful ballets, making them forget about their realities, transporting them to different worlds, making my steps look effortless and alive, but, sometimes, I wonder if they really know the meaning of what I do? http://blog.balletaz.org/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/2-NMagnicaballi-in-Mosaik.jpg 519 1100 Dana Manners /wp-content/uploads/2016/08/logo-balletaz-white.png Dana Manners2017-03-09 20:20:232017-03-23 20:25:39Dancer's Story: Natalia Magnicaballi
I really enjoy the process of creating a piece. Coming up with ideas. It’s a lot of fun for me. I really enjoyed doing the Brazillian piece, “Nine O’Clock”, for “Innovations”. It really reminded me of home. I even included a song that my dad and I used to listen to in the car. http://blog.balletaz.org/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/130505_baz_3672.jpg 927 1100 Dana Manners /wp-content/uploads/2016/08/logo-balletaz-white.png Dana Manners2017-03-02 23:54:202017-03-30 17:11:26Behind the Scenes with Nayon Iovino: "Today's Masters"
I’m very proud of this version. I love that each time, I’m able to see my choreography better and better because our dancers keep getting better. This ballet is a very human story, not a fairy tale, so I try to make the dancers look like beings instead of dancers. It’s very real. http://blog.balletaz.org/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/130213_baz_0116.jpg 565 1100 Dana Manners /wp-content/uploads/2016/08/logo-balletaz-white.png Dana Manners2017-01-25 23:34:122017-03-23 20:53:41Behind the Scenes with Ib Andersen: "Romeo & Juliet"
It wasn't until I moved to the states did I fully understand the meaning of a “traditional Christmas”. Finally everything started to make sense. Those wintry Christmas movies and all those Christmas songs. http://blog.balletaz.org/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/BA_Bayadere_16-135-by_iziliaev.jpg 550 1100 Dana Manners /wp-content/uploads/2016/08/logo-balletaz-white.png Dana Manners2017-01-13 23:37:122017-02-09 21:53:43Dancer's Story: Amber Lewis
